Back in the 1980's while I was in High School, a very good friend and Elmer gave me an HW-8 in order for me to get my feet wet onthe low bands. This was a great radio for me and I made many contacts with it. As I continued to move along on my quest for the next higher ham ticket my radio changed to a more capable and powerful rig and the HW-8 moved along to the next up and coming young ham who happened to meet my good friend.

In December of 2003 I bought another HW-8. It could be said that I am trying to relive a bit of my younger days and you would be at least partially right. Having learned CW, I doubted its usefulness other than to have fun on the low bands. It has however, come to have played a significant role in my recovery from a devastating stroke. My advice is to enjoy the littler things that life gives you, as one day these are the experiences that you will come to treasure greatly.
